3 Days to Go

I'm sorry for the radio silence. We are now 3 days from the wedding and have been working hard to get the last minute parts done. Hopefully we will finish most of it today and have time to relax Thursday and Friday. I've been a ball of nerves. How did you all feel the week of your wedding? I don't like large groups or being the center of attention, so I am working every moment at not having a meltdown. Josh dislikes it when I say this, but honestly I just can't wait for it to be over. I hope I feel differently when it is happening, but for now that's just the honest truth. Anyone else? Please tell me I'm not alone.

  1. My wedding is also in 3 days and just like you I can't wait for it to be over. So much planning and worrying has gone into this day. I'm excited to see my family and friends but I'm really looking forward to not having a wedding to plan anymore. Best wishes to you!

  3. Oh my goodness I'm with you 100%. I'm not getting married for a whole year and I look forward to the day with nothing but dread. I can't wait to be married to my favourite person but the wedding part is not my 1st choice.

Good luck with your upcoming nuptials. Put up lots of pretty pictures and happy stories afterwards to make me brave!

    1. Thank god I'm not the only one. Dread is exactly the word. Hopefully I will be back to report that it was the most amazing day of my life after it is all over! Will share lots of photos & stories as soon as I can :)

  4. You are not alone. I got married in November and Husband insisted on having a HUGE do (75 people which, for me, was far more than I'd have wanted). In the end, having been looking forward to it coming and going, it was an awesome day, totally fun and absolutely brilliant being the centre of attention. Have a great day - you'll love it (and thanks for the amazing blog)

    1. That's what most people seem to say -- in the end they loved it and were happy about how it went down. Really hope I feel the same way. As far as I am concerned you are a SAINT for going along with the big wedding. 75 is still a lot. We have 23 and it is overwhelming!

  5. Totally get it Claire. I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised though to be in the embrace of your family and friends on this special day. We all love you so much!

  6. Congratulations my dear! Not to worry - a sense of giddy excitement will hit you on Friday when you realize there is nothing left to do but enjoy yourself.

Your house and garden will look beautiful, you'll look beautiful and everyone will have a wonderful time because you two will be happy. Happy to be in love, happy to have the day finally come, happy to have your very best pal to share the experience with. That happiness of course will bleed out into the crowd like a blanket of positivity, and light and love.

Think of it like a big fun party, take lots of deep breaths, maybe work in a massage the morning of and don't forget to pack a little snack basket for after the reception for you and your husband. You might not be able to eat a lot during the whole day and a welcome snack when you're finally alone together and able to relax is like paradise.

The best man at our wedding packed us a to-go basket full of everything we served at the reception including slices of cake and a bottle of champagne.
It made for a wonderful carpet picnic when we were back at the hotel by ourselves:)

Keep your eyes and heart on all the positives of the big day, forget (really - forget) any and all negative aspects and you'll breeze through the weekend on cloud 9. And if any little moments of doubt or frustration creep in, do me a favor and go out and look at that rock wall of yours. You toiled and tolled and fussed over that and look how marvelous it turned out. Clearly you are very capable at building beautiful things...weddings included:)

Now go and get married. And have FUN! Can't wait to see pictures.

  7. I'm a big fan of your blog and probably old enough to be your mom. My suggestion to you is to stay in the moment at your wedding so its not a big blur. Focus on your love and admiration of Josh. Tune everyone else out when you walk toward him. Because its really a celebration and commitment of the love you have for each other. After the ceremony is over, have FUN! Looking forward to seeing pictures!

  8. My husband and I are the same way! We did a first look so we saw each other before our ceremony. It was really relaxing to be with him and take pictures for about an hour. Then,I just focused on him as I walked down the aisle. Once I was up there it felt like it was just the two of us there. After the wedding we did some pictures with friends and family then joined the party. We had about 120 people and it's amazing to have them all in one place sharing your day with you.

Enjoy your day! And just remind yourself why you're doing all this!

    1. Sounds like you had a wonderful day. Hope I am as lucky and can look back on the day as a happy and not stressful one! I so admire people who can stay calm and present during such a big event.

  9. it will be better when you are surrounded by friends and family. Just remember why you're there, and RELAX. seriously, the only one worrying about how you look and how the house looks is you. Your loved ones will just be happy to be part of it all, and I am sure will be impressed with all you have done so far.
Happy wedding!!!! try to enjoy it. :)

  10. Thanks to every single one of you who commented here. Your words helped me get through the day, and I am feeling much better than I was this morning thanks to all of you! Deep breaths and stay in the moment, that is my new mantra. I will post lots of pictures as soon as I have my hands on them & provide a full report. To those of you with similar wedding dread (Thimble Thief, TCD) I hope you guys find some peace and are able to enjoy the "big day" when it comes. I wish I had more words of wisdom --- maybe after Saturday I will! Thank you all so so much.

  11. You are definitely not alone on this one. My wife was an incredible ball of nerves the week of our wedding. She has anxiety issues and did. not. want. to be in front of all of those people.

However, the morning of the wedding she woke and was completely cool with the whole thing. We've been married for four years as of this month and looking back she only remembers the good things.

    1. Ball of nerves is exactly it. I'm glad for both of your sakes that she was able to enjoy the wedding day. Hope I feel the same!

  12. Claire, I was a wedding coordinator for 4 years awhile ago and I remember that many brides feel the same as you. I know you will wake up on your wedding day and be amazed at how calm you are ... and how much joy you feel. I agree with the anonymous reader who reminded you of your beautiful block wall. You know how to focus on the present moment -- how to roll up your sleeves and get the job done. And the job you have ahead of you on your wedding day? To enjoy and celebrate the love you feel for Josh -- and to let that love spread to your family and friends. What a lovely day that is going to be! Have fun.

  13. hi, my husband recounts to others that I got my dress and gave up on the rest, "we don't need chairs" I said, with his response "umm, honey, yes we do, I'll take care of it" I had the idea of what i wanted the wedding to be; maison jars with tea lights, barefoot, public park in the town we met in, on a hill at sunset. It got stressful and I handed it over to him. thankfully he was willing to take the load of our small local wedding. I'm the dreamer he says and he takes care of business :)

    1. Lucky lady to have a husband like that! It is the morning of and I can't sleep so I am distracting myself here on the blog and obsessing about how we are going to transfer all the water glasses from the cocktail area to the dinner area. Sometimes it's nice just to let go and hand it over to someone else! I'm envious of you!

  14. Oh no!!! Enjoy every minute because it will go by so fast. And youll want to relive it all the day after. A dear friend gave me this advice and it worked: a few times throughout the event, just stop and look around you, soak it all in, have a moment to yourself and your memory. These are the moments that are most clear in my mind, great memories. Have fun and just let go!

  15. Claire,
I felt the same way leading up to Mat's and my wedding...just couldn't wait for it to be over. But, when I really stopped and thought about it, I just wanted all of the planning to be over, not the event. Remember, you and Josh are about to spend an entire day with every person in this world that you love. They will all be in the same place at the same time with YOU. This may not happen again for many many years if EVER!
The morning of my wedding I took the advice of my best friend and just took lots of deep breathes. Everything will workout perfectly if you just relax and go with the flow that day. You and my brother are going to feel non stop JOY and LOVE the entire day. Relish every single moment of those feelings. :-)

  16. I think your blog is fantastic and so are you. You guys have done such a great job with your projects and I love reading about them. I think you got good adviee earlier from Anonymous, stay in the moment, focus on your love for Josh. You don't have to be perfect for the day to be fun. Be your lovely, wonderful self!

  17. Just savor every moment of having all your loved ones gather around you for this specail day. It does not matter in the LEAST if any little thing should go wrong because those are the things that always end up being the best stories later on. Just let it all unfold as it will and have fun with it!

  18. Completely normal feelings. The good news is when the day comes, it's like getting on train; it just takes you along and you realise this is what all the planning was for. BTW, it's an express train; it'll go by so fast you'll wonder where it went, so even though it's the opposite of what you feel right now, try to find a moment to savour it. You'll be glad you did. All the best to you and my dear nephew for your big day!
